How to run your Ontario business in Alberta?

For an Ontario corporation to run business in Alberta, it must get a registered corporation as an extra-provincial corporation in Alberta.

The Extra Provincial Corporation is the structural name of the corporation in Alberta.

To register a company as an extra-provincial corporation:

  1. Get an Alberta NUANS report
    "You do not need a NUANS report when your out-of-province corporation was formed under the Canada Business Corporations Act or if it is numbered company. That means you must choose a name that is not similar to any corporation in Alberta. But Alberta company's name can be the name of the registered office in Ontario.
  2. Appoint an agent for service in Alberta
    The Agent is the individual who is the Alberta manager and has a physical address in Alberta.
  3. Gather one the following documents
    Letters patent of incorporation any certificate, license or another instrument that provides proof of incorporation.
    Evidence of the current status of your Corporate from the registry office in your home jurisdiction
  4. Fill out the forms of
    Statement of Registration
    Notice of Agent for Service for Alberta or extra-provincial Corporation, Notice of Assumed Name
  5. Submit your application package
    You need to take your forms to a registry agent or authorized Alberta service provider. You will need to bring:
    registration forms, charter documents, NUANS report, valid ID and fee payment
